In most areas (where they are not grown) orchids are super expensive to buy. And, there are lots of other flowers you can eat if you want to substitute. If you found them on an old job then go back to that company and ask.

You can eat gladiolus too. They'd probably be a lot less pricey.

I have no idea, that would be so awsome to eat an orchid though. I wonder what is tastes like. You can also get a vine called nasturathim (sp?) and its edible, and has yellow, red, and orange flowers. And lupines are edible too.

I don't know which orchids have edible flowers; I do know that vanilla comes from an orchid, but those are difficult to find. I've included a web site that discusses other edible plants, however; I grow African violets, and I know from personal experience that their blossoms are edible!

The orchid that is most likely the one you used at your job is Dendrobium. You can order stems of Dendrobium from a florist, but theses are not food-grade and should not be consumed due to the chemicals and pesticides used in their culture. Food- grade flowers can be ordered through wholesale produce companies usually. Inquire at your favorite restaurant or specialty food store; they may be able to order them for you. While these orchids can be eaten, they are not grown as a food crop. Vanilla planifolia is the only species of orchid out of over 30,000 possible species which has any culinary use.
