Question: Ladies, what's the deal with flowers? Why do most of you go absolutely gaga over receiving cut flowers?

I used to think cut flowers were a ridiculous gift. I thought it was a sentimental waste. Now, I love them as much as any woman does. I think it is a combination of things. The wonderful smell, the thoughtfulness of the gesture, they make any room look brighter and looking at somesthing so beautiful makes you feel that way inside. It's like owning a natural piece of beauty.

I am not sure if it is just flowers, but there is something in the simplicity and beauty of this action. But mostly it makes us happy, because if you went out to buy flowers, you were obviously trying to flatter us and make us happy, and so we are happy.

There's an old saying "Give me my flowers before i'm dead"At least in the Black culture.Some men would view receiving flowers as feminist or girly, It's just a token of love.Or a gesture of affection. Some men would blush or be embarassed, If you do receive flowers you are a good guy and well liked.

woman love receiving flowers, but defintley not because they are expensive. actually any flowers will do. it shows us that our guy thought about us and brought us flowers as a way of saying something. and it makes us feel good that they thought of us in a loving way. flowers are beautiful, and the make us feel pretty because of that. they are usually soft and smell really good. they make us feel just that way inside. it makes us feel that our guys feels that way about us!!men, they aren't soft and delicate and beautiful and sweet. so they dont like flowers like we do.but u dont have to spend a lot of money on them either. i love when my hubby picks some from our garden and gives them too me.

They are pretty.They smell nice.Society has conditioned us to believe that when a man gives a woman fresh flowers he cares about her - and it IS nice to know someone cares. If coming from someone who does not ordinarily express deep emotion, receiving cut flowers can elicit the "gaga" response as you noted. But mostly, they are pretty and they smell nice. Men don't get gaga over flowers, but give him an electronic gadget and see his face light up!

I send flowers to men all the time. They love it. I'm sure everyone's feelings about flowers is a matter of taste and varies. But, for me, I am in love with flowers. I garden and watercolor plants and flowers. Their delicate perfumes and giddy colors and velvety-soft petals are most pleasing to me. A bouquet of flowers from a man actually turns me on. Everytime I glance at the bouquet, I think of him . . . and, oddly, I think about how delicious his neck smells like.

Because flowers are pretty and girls like them. A guy version of a gift like flowers would be a Whopper or a Big Mac. Wouldn't it brighten your day knowing that someone was thinking of you and brought you Burger King or Mc Donalds? I know my husband would like that just like he knows that it brightens my day when he comes home with flowers. Hope that explains things ;)

Cut flowers are absolutely OUT. Unless they are organically grown they are chock- FULL of dangerous levels of highly-toxic pesticides. Traces of this toxic chemical soup is what the recipient of cut flowers really gets. It's on their hands, on their clothes, and in the surrounding airspace. These flowers are grown in developing countries; the peasants who process the plant material are regularly exposed to pesticides, fungicides, etc., that are not permitted for use in the USA or Canada. Dow Chemical (for instance) manufactures DDT - and exports it for use in developing countries. In these countries, human exposure to pesticides/fungicides is not regulated. The peasant people who do this work are poor, and haven't much in the way of alternatives. Very many are women. People working in these flower-factories often become ill. There are high rates of miscarriage and birth defects reported. Nobody knows how health will be affected in the long-term. Flowers can't be eaten - the land can be better utilised to grow food. Cut flowers are a waste of money and a waste of resources all round. They make people sick. Don't buy them.

I don't go gaga over flowers. They are too expensive, and they die, and what do you do with them? Put them in a vase? ... okay. And watch them. They smell nice, though.In the first year of high school my girlfriends came to school with lots of presents and flowers and balloons on my birthday - I was surprised and didn't know what to do with it all. So I got one of my teachers to put the flowers in a vase. And my friends felt quite offended! I hadn't realised this, but they expected me to carry them around all day as "proof" of my birthday or something. And all I was thinking about was that the flowers would die quicker, and it was annoying carrying everything around with me everywhere... I would rather (usually) a guy got me one rose, or picked a flower from a neighbours garden or something - because that is inexpensive - and I think one flower is as beautiful as many, and smells as nice - and its the gesture (not the price) that counts. I love simplicity.What do guys like as presents? Chocolate? It's always hard to buy for guys.
