Answer #2
Cutting stems creates a suction. When cutting flowers underwater does not allow any air bubbles obstruct the flow of water to the top of the head. Air bubbles causes bent heads in roses and premature wilting in other flowers. When the flower is cut underwater, uptake will be all water. The tip where water should still be present on the cut ends is because it should be an immediate transfer to the water source. With a bit of water still on the ends, it ensures a lesser chance of air being captured into the stem. You also need to cut in an angle because it allows the maximum surface area of the stem to uptake the water. Using warm water contain less bubbles compared to cold water, hence flowers opening faster.
