Answer #2 maybe you can afford both if you find them on sale? I have found great deals on
books at Amazon.com. Maybe they have what u r looking for ~ in used. A friend
of mine owns a flower shop and as far as I can tell they don't expect their
young helpers to be experts... Just learn as you go and be creative when you
can. - answered by urbanbutterfly

Answer #4 You can not learn the trade by reading books, they only tell you what has been,
and not now.Every florist is an individual, with their own professional
skills. If you are able, I would suggest you go to the market early morning, with
the florist, and see what they buy. There is far more to being a florist than
meets the eye. You need to have artistic skills, have a good sense of coulor
corordination, what is required for certain work, example, funerals or weddings
or birthdays.I can not recomend any book that will help you, only that you gain
knowledge by getting involved in the trade, and build on your own ideas and
imagination.Ask your florist that is helping you, to let you spend more time
with them. They may not be able to pay you for the extra time, but it will help
you in your career.Good luck, I wish you all the best. - answered by Dr David
Answer #5 I can't believe the number of people who didn't even answer the question that
you asked.I don't remember having a 'text book' for my college florist classes.
Our professor had made her own packet that you had to buy. What I would recommend
is to go to the book store that serves the college students. Ask them what
books are required for the classes you were interested in taking. Have them
show you the books. Buy them there... or you can check Amazon (which ever book
company you use) for better pricing. Independent garden centers (with Florists)
sometime give seminars at low or no charge to the public. They might offer some
floral design workshops. Also check the Adult Ed. or Community Education
programs offered through your local public school system, someone might be
offering a course there too.I myself teach gardening classes through several
local school systems.I hope that this helpsGood luck-Dr. Dave has some good
advice too! - answered by Kevin C
Answer #6 the books that I used to become a florist were my mothers telefloral and afs
books. floral arranging is a learned skill through hands on experiance. Bow
making takes time and patience. corsages and boutineers take lots of practice
and knowing your plants takes a class in horticulture or lots and lots of years
behind you. If your just trying to learn how to make arrangements try the
telefloral and afs books. there are a few others that teach you about heigth
and semitry and you can pick them up at barnes and noble or borders books
possibly a full waldens if you have one in the area. what the names of these
books are I have no idea. now if you need to know what supplies a good florist
needs then inventory your present job. 1 pick machine and picks wire various
gauges and lengths scissors and wire cutters Sharp knife stem tape straight pins
oasis foam sahara foam various containers watering can ect.Good luck - answered by Patrick M
